cockatiel birds

cockatiel birds…a bird lovers paradise

My friend has a cockatiel chick 3 weeks old. It has most of the
pin feathers, but no Wing feathers. Is there a cause for this?
What can she do.

The chick is 3 weeks old, it's still very very young. It just need to simply grow up and let the feathers grow in. Think of it as peach fuzz when you are a little baby.

i have two cockatiels laying eggs so far only 4 has red vines

There are no laws about how many birds you can have especially if they are born to you. In some states though there are certain breeds of birds that it is against the law to own in that state but no states condem cockatiels good luck!

The little birds are already 3-4 week old, but still in nest.
I'm talking about small parrots, not the big talking ones.

If your babies are being eaten, you should take them out and handraise them. I dont know what goes around in your females brain, but a accurate guess is that she thinks that the babies are food or don't belong. OR The female might be sick. Tell your vet if you think its a big problem.

I have a 2 month old cockatiel in a rather large cage that looks bigger enough for more than one bird. What birds can live with my 'tiel? Or is my best bet just to buy another 'tiel? I was wondering because when summer is over I have to go to school and don't want him to be lonely.

I would get another cockatiel, they get along great together and you might end up with a male and female that will breed and give you more cockatiels…

My daughter's cockatiel died a week after being moved from her bedroom to the basement. It's an improved basement, but the air is damp and musty down there, especially compared to her room on the second floor of the house. Could that have killed the bird?

Yes it could've been. Cockatiel lungs are very sensitive. Mine unfortunately died because I used cooking spray. That's how sensitive they are. Sorry about the loss. The bird needed to stay somewhere where the air is fresh and clean.

My cockatiel bird has been alone for 5 years and i dicided to get him a female cockatiel but he wont let her come near him and he will get mad and start screaming like crazy i dont know what the problem is i need help to see what i can to do make them get along. Tell me what i did wrong and what i can do to ficks it please help me they been together know for five days and they still dont get along.

Well what you did wrong is put her right into his territory. You should take her out of there and house her in her own cage until he gets to know her through the cage and across the room. Then get a new cage you can put both of them in at one time, thus both birds being in a new cage so they share the territory. Otherwise until he accepts her being in HIS CAGE then he has the right to be upset. Its no big deal to us but to him shes in HIS house! LOL!

i dont want anything small ( no parakeets, finches, cockatiels etc..) i want a larger bird that will be able to learn to speak

No parrot is guranteed to speak. There are African Gryes who don't talk. Besides that, it's not fair to the bird if you just get a parrot because you want them to talk. You should get a parrot if you are ready to deal with the noise, mess, bites, commitment, and cost then a parrot may be for you. Many people think they are able to care for a parrot, and then the parrot ends up plucked, and screeching in a rescue. Do your research before you make a final decision.

Cockatiels, although on the smaller side, are a great bird for a beginner or even someone who has owned birds for a year. They're a lower maintence, and not very loud as far as birds go. They always seem in a good mood and some can learn to say a few words, or mimicks sounds. You can't really go wrong with a hand fed tiel.

I'd suggest maybe a quaker (illegal in some states), senegal, meyers, green cheek, or a love bird. Look into different challenges to each species, and noise voume. If you do your research you can find the bird perfect for your home.

If you could tell its name and give a little description that will be awsome! Thanks

Ohh I love the cinnamon aswell. I also love white faces. They're blackish grey andwhite.. So they're kind of plain but there is something about them that makes them so beautiful. They're more expensive than most breeds though.

I bought a new pied cockatiel today, he is about 8 weeks old, still a baby, and he will not really do anything. He will just sit there in the cage, and when I try to pet him, he will hiss at me and fly all over the cage. I haven't seen him eat, but I just got him a few hours ago, I just want to know the best way to make my new pet feel at home. I have another 7 year old boy cockatiel, which I thought would help the bird feel better. What else can I do?

My husband says to have patience. Leave him in the cage for a week or two, cover the cage every night. Every day talk to it, change food and water every day, then after a week start leaving the cage door open, then walk away. After about 2 weeks start the finger-training but use a glove!

Young birds need lots and lots of attention, and buy that bird a mirror, all birds he's had have had a mirror for a companion. And some toys. Good luck with the new bird!

My dad thought it would give them some fresh air. But would it be too cold for them? My last bidgie died and we are not sure whether it was coz it was too cold for him outside. I am scared this budgie will die coz it is too cold for him. Any advice?

I personally would never let my parrot nor my budgies be outside all night. Our nights get way cold, and wind is a killer. Colds and birds do not mix.
If outside do you have a nesting box or some other shelter for them? Some parts of the world they are outside all the time, they are wild somewhere in this world. Just not in our cold climate.
